A Practical Introduction for MSPs and Multi-Site Enterprises

Over the past decade, IT teams have become comfortable managing massive amounts of compute and storage remotely from centralized data centers and cloud platforms. Virtualization made it possible to deploy, monitor, and update infrastructure without being physically present.

Now, that same operational model is moving out of the data center and into the real world at retail store locations, restaurants, factories, clinics, and branch offices. This shift is driving the rapid adoption of edge computing.

Edge computing simply means placing compute and storage closer to where applications are used, rather than relying solely on distant data centers or cloud regions. For distributed organizations, this reduces latency, improves reliability, and keeps critical workloads running even when connectivity is limited or disrupted.

Why Edge Computing Looks Different Today

Edge computing isn’t new, but today’s edge is very different from early branch-office servers. What’s changed is manageability.

The massive adoption of virtualization in data centers was pioneered by platforms like VMware, which proved that infrastructure could be centrally managed, automated, and scaled with minimal hands-on effort. Those same principles have now been refined and adapted for edge environments, where simplicity and resiliency matter even more.

Enter Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI)

Hyperconverged infrastructure, or HCI, is the architectural foundation that makes modern edge computing possible.

Instead of managing separate systems for servers, storage, virtualization, and monitoring, HCI brings everything together into a single, integrated platform. Think of it as the infrastructure equivalent of the smartphone: what once required multiple standalone devices is now delivered through one cohesive system.

Why Simplicity Matters at the Edge

Traditional infrastructure architectures were designed for data center environments with dedicated IT staff, redundant hardware layers, and complex backup strategies. When those same designs are pushed to the edge, they often create unnecessary cost and operational overhead.

Modern edge platforms take a different approach. By streamlining traditional architectures into a more efficient, software-defined model, organizations can achieve resilience and performance without over-provisioning hardware or management tools.

What This Means for MSPs and Multi-Site Enterprises

For MSPs, edge computing with HCI enables faster deployments, standardized architectures, reduced operational complexity, and new recurring service opportunities.

For multi-site enterprises, it delivers consistent application performance, reduced dependence on constant cloud connectivity, and infrastructure that scales without scaling the operational IT burden.

As edge computing continues to grow, platforms that prioritize simplicity, centralized management, and efficiency will define the next generation of distributed IT.

Networks are no longer just about connectivity. They are expected to deliver performance, security, visibility, and continuity across offices, homes, clouds, and everything in between. And when networks fail to keep up, the business feels it immediately.

This is the reality Adaptiv SD-WAN was built for. Our mission is simple and unwavering: to help businesses regain control of their networks by improving reliability, quality, manageability, and security. These are not abstract concepts, but practical outcomes that operators, partners, and customers can rely on every day.

While cybersecurity, reliability, and performance dominate organizational priorities, manageability is often overlooked. Yet in today’s distributed environments, cloud applications, hybrid workforces, and multi-site deployments, manageability becomes a make-or-break factor. A network that performs well but is hard to manage or automate quickly turns into a bottleneck instead of a business enabler.

SD-WAN introduces a clean separation between the control and data planes, enabling centralized visibility and policy control. Industry forecasts show annual growth rates around 25-30% for SD-WAN over the next several years (1/2). In practical terms, the market could quadruple in size by 2030. Global SD-WAN spend is estimated around $9 B in 2025, on track to reach $35+ B by 2030 (3). This explosion is fueled by cloud migration and the hybrid work boom: businesses need better networks, and they need them fast.

Meanwhile, North America leads the charge, accounting for roughly half of the worldwide SD-WAN/SASE revenue (4). For US channel partners, high growth = high reward as the lion’s share of new SD-WAN spending is happening right in your backyard. Early entrants can grab a major slice of a fast-expanding revenue pool.

It’s not just networking, cloud-based cybersecurity is on a similar trajectory powered by Secure Access Service Edge (SASE). A recent market study valued the global SASE market at about $4 B in 2024 and projects roughly 27% CAGR reaching about $17 B by 2030 (5). North America also dominates here with an estimated 46% share of the SASE market (6). This underscores that integrated SD-WAN + security services represent a booming frontier. Partners who offer cloud-managed SD-WAN today are well positioned to upsell full SASE solutions as client needs evolve, capturing even more value.

Managed Services: The Channel Sweet Spot

Perhaps the most compelling insight for channel partners: the vast majority of businesses prefer to consume SD-WAN as a managed service, not DIY. In fact, a Masergy/Altman Solon study found that only 23% of companies use a “do-it-yourself” SD-WAN approach, whereas 77% opt for fully managed or co-managed solutions (7). The 2024 TeleGeography WAN Manager Survey confirms this trend by showing the DIY route remains the least popular across all business sizes. Even among smaller firms, roughly 4 out of 5 prefer to have a provider involved rather than building SD-WAN in-house.

Why Do Customers Want Managed SD-WAN?

It boils down to simplicity and expertise. Businesses recognize that designing, integrating, and running a distributed WAN (often across dozens of sites) is complex and resource-intensive. Managed SD-WAN services offer a turnkey delivery experience where the certified solution provider handles the edge devices, network links, 24/7 monitoring, SLAs, and even security integration. This allows the customer to focus their precious IT resources on core business initiatives instead of becoming network engineers. As one industry analyst noted, about “30% of companies that attempt SD-WAN DIY find it very difficult,” whereas an MSP can make it “very easy” for them (8). No wonder even smaller enterprises are eager to have a partner carry the load. In fact, in the 500-1000 employee range, 76% of companies with SD-WAN use an MSP to manage it!

Crucially, this preference extends to SASE as well. A 2023 Frost & Sullivan study found “an MSP is the most preferred partner to implement SASE” for businesses of all sizes(9). This survey found that over 57% of small businesses relied on an MSP for their SASE rollout rather than handling it internally. The takeaway: whether it’s SD-WAN or the broader SASE framework, customers are looking to the channel to design, deliver, and manage these solutions.

All of this is good news for MSPs and integrators, the market wants managed services! It means recurring revenue is there for the taking. By offering cloud-managed SD-WAN and SASE, partners can lock in long-term contracts and monthly recurring margins. It’s a classic win-win: the client gets a hassle-free solution with expert support, and the provider gets a steady, compounding revenue stream. If you can manage it for them, most companies will gladly pay you to do so. That’s services revenue straight to your bottom line. Meanwhile, if you don’t offer managed SD-WAN, your clients will find someone else who does.

Almost Ubiquitous – Don’t Miss the Wave

SD-WAN isn’t a niche, early-adopter technology anymore, it’s becoming standard infrastructure for distributed businesses. As of 2024, roughly 90% of companies are either using SD-WAN or in the process of adopting it, according to TeleGeography’s 2024 WAN Manager Survey. Back in 2021, an Altman Solon study similarly predicted adoption would reach 92% of all companies by 2026, and we’re now well on the way to that reality.

For MSPs, this is a case of opportunity now, risk later. In the near term, SD-WAN/SASE is a high-growth service you can lead with to differentiate your portfolio and capture new clients. It’s still a cutting-edge offering that many customers are actively researching or rolling out for the first time, so you can be the expert that guides them.

But within a few short years, having SD-WAN and SASE capabilities will be table stakes. If your MSP business isn’t on this train, you risk getting left behind. If a prospect asks about cloud-network solutions and you don’t have a strong SD-WAN/SASE offering, they’ll likely turn to a competitor who does. The window for being an early mover is open now; it won’t be open forever. We’re at the point where not offering SD-WAN is a competitive disadvantage.

The fear of missing out is real. Every quarter, more businesses are choosing their SD-WAN and SASE providers. Partners who establish themselves now will reap the rewards of customer loyalty and an installed base. Those who wait may find the market crowded or their role minimized.

The Bottom Line for Partners

The SD-WAN and SASE trend in the SME space boils down to two words: growth and opportunity. Demand is skyrocketing, and most of that boom will flow through managed service channels. For MSPs, this is a perfect storm as SD-WAN provides a high-demand technology that customers largely cannot or will not deploy on their own.
By leaning in now, partners can secure a strong foothold (and healthy profits) in a market that’s on a steep upward trajectory. Consider the advantages:

High Growth, High Reward: Rapid market expansion means even a modest share can translate into significant new revenue. The rising tide lifts all boats, but you have to be in the water to benefit.

Recurring Revenue & Sticky Services: SD-WAN and SASE are delivered as ongoing services, not one-off sales. Land a customer’s network, and you’re looking at years of recurring income. It builds a compounding revenue base and deepens client trust.

Customer Value & Retention: These technologies solve real pain points (better cloud app performance, simpler branch connectivity, stronger security). Delivering that value enhances your role as a trusted advisor. Plus, once you’re managing a customer’s network, they’re far less likely to leave – you’ve become embedded in their operations.

Competitive Differentiation (Now or Never): At the moment, offering cloud-managed SD-WAN/SASE sets you apart because it shows you’re innovative and forward-thinking. Soon, however, it will be an expected part of any MSP portfolio. Getting in now means you lead the pack instead of scrambling later. Don’t be the last MSP to add SD-WAN; be the first in your market to master it.

Bridge to Full SASE Solutions: Starting with SD-WAN opens the door to upselling security and other IT services. As clients grow, you can evolve their setup toward a complete SASE framework by adding layers of cybersecurity. That means even more revenue per customer and a broader “stickiness” as their one-stop provider.

Adaptiv Networks is here to help partners seize this momentum. Our cloud-managed SD-WAN and SASE platform was built 100% for the channel, meaning our success is tied to your success. We also provide sales enablement, training, and Tier-2 support as part of our Partner Program, effectively acting as an extension of your team.

In short, MSPs are doubling down on SD-WAN & SASE because it’s a fast-growth, high-margin opportunity that aligns perfectly with what SMEs need. The only question is: will you be the one meeting that need, or will your competitor?

Now is the time to lean in and make sure it’s you. The market is surging, the channel is the preferred delivery method, and Adaptiv’s partner-focused model gives you a running start. Don’t miss out on the SD-WAN/SASE wave that’s sweeping the industry, let’s ride it together and help businesses thrive in the cloud era. Contact our channel team today to set up a call, or visit our Partner Program page to learn more.

If one link fails or gets congested, traffic is automatically redirected to a different link, thus reducing latency. According to a Q4 2018 report from Nemertes Research, early SD-WAN adopters are reporting a 69% drop in annual site downtime. All solutions are not created equal, so be sure to carefully compare SD-WAN failover features before you buy.

Cost Efficiency

Cost control is key to delivering value in manufacturing. Firewalls weren’t built for this.

Enter SASE.

Brave New Edge

In the evolving world of network security, it’s easy to fall into the trap of equating SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) with “a firewall in the cloud.” But this simplification does the concept a disservice. Just as SD-WAN redefined how we use bandwidth by building overlays on top of underlying infrastructure, SASE redefines how we think about security.

SASE is not a product. It’s a paradigm shift — one that no longer considers that the network perimeter is the optimal line of defense. With the advent of digital transformation, the cloud, SaaS, and hybrid work, the new frontier of cybersecurity is wherever users — and their data — carry out their business.

From Bandwidth to Security: A Philosophy of Abstraction

SD-WAN changed the game by abstracting connectivity — enabling networks to be resilient, cost-effective, and intelligent, regardless of the underlying transport. It built intelligent, resilient overlays on top of whatever connectivity was available — fiber, copper, LTE — and centralized control and visibility.

SASE follows a similar philosophy.

It takes over where SD-WAN left off, going further and building on the topology of SD-WAN to deliver new layers of security. It is the next step in network reliability and network security. It goes so far as restructuring security: distributing functions when performance or privacy require it (closer to the user), and centralizing them in the cloud when uniform enforcement or scale is paramount.

SASE isn’t just about moving a firewall to AWS or Azure.

It’s about deconstructing the network perimeter and replacing it with modular, scalable, and context-aware security.

Why NGFWs Are No Longer Enough

Firewalls still serve a purpose. Blocking ports, restricting IPs, and maintaining known-good states remain foundational controls. Those staple features of network security, however, can live elsewhere. Firewalls emerged when local and wide area networks first connected to the Internet—a space that was, and still is, largely unregulated.

Suddenly, internal systems became exposed and discoverable. Firewalls provided the first line of defense, blocking unwanted traffic and protecting on-prem resources.

As long as corporate data stayed on the internal network, firewalls remained essential. Over time, more features were added—leading to Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs). But these were still built on a perimeter model—one that’s increasingly out of step with today’s decentralized, cloud-first reality.

In short, NGFWs were not designed for hybrid work, SaaS, or a borderless enterprise.

Today, they struggle with:

Configuration complexity, especially across distributed sites;

Inefficient remote access, making distributed networks tedious to manage;

Too much computational power required at the edge, causing performance bottlenecks;

Operational risk, as outdated firmware or misconfigured rules become soft targets for attackers — especially as AI enhances threat sophistication.

More often than not, these perimeter defenses introduce risk by pretending the perimeter still exists. Relying on a firewall as the primary line of defense inherently exposes public IP addresses and open ports to the internet—effectively inviting reconnaissance and exploitation. Once discovered, these exposed surfaces can be targeted through countless known vulnerabilities. The more you depend on exposed perimeter gear, the more you invite attackers to bypass your defenses before a single policy is even enforced.

SASE Reimagines Security by Removing the Perimeter From Harm’s Way

NGFWs try to defend an attack surface that no longer aligns with a fixed perimeter. In a world of cloud and remote work, that perimeter is gone. SASE removes it from harm’s way entirely, reducing exposure and making the network safer by design.

Instead of layering complexity on outdated models, SASE starts fresh—built on top of a cloud-first SD-WAN topology that ensures reliable, intelligent connectivity as its foundation. Security is no longer bolted on; it’s architected from the ground up to support how modern organizations operate.

Identity-aware Zero Trust Network Access client

Inline DNS and URL filtering

Centralized firewall management across sites

Cloud-hosted policy enforcement and malware detection

Real-time traffic inspection — not just on the WAN, but across all user contexts

In this model, network availability, network security, and cybersecurity work hand in hand—aligned and orchestrated to deliver seamless user experiences without compromising protection. It’s adaptive, it’s elastic. It’s modular. It’s where security meets simplicity and manageability; where security doesn’t come at the cost of excessive intrusiveness.

Take, for Example, Adaptiv Networks

Adaptiv Networks brings SASE to life not through buzzwords, but through thoughtful design and seamless integration of critical security functions. Every piece is engineered to serve a distributed workforce and a cloud-first enterprise.

End-to-end encryption and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) form the foundation of a zero-trust approach. With every connection encrypted—between branch offices, remote workers, or cloud applications—your data stays confidential, even over public networks. MFA adds a crucial second layer of identity validation, ensuring that only authorized users, not just devices, can access sensitive systems. This is especially critical in a world where stolen credentials remain one of the leading causes of breaches.

Carrier-Grade NAT (CGNAT) acts as a shield between your network and the outside world. By masking internal IP addresses and aggregating outbound traffic through shared public IPs, Adaptiv makes it significantly harder for malicious actors to fingerprint or probe individual devices. This isn’t just about hiding—it’s about actively reducing your attack surface, even before filtering or inspection begins.

Moreover, by relying on CGNAT, which is the default configuration of Adaptiv SD-WAN, businesses can even shield their existing NGFWs, making them unreachable from the public internet, thereby mitigating their inherent vulnerabilities.

URL and DNS filtering are built directly into the Adaptiv solution—not tacked on, but part of the flow. These tools allow you to block access to malicious domains and suspicious URLs in real time, preventing phishing, ransomware links, or malware drop sites from ever reaching your users.

Real-time malware detection, powered by dynamic inspection engines and updated threat intelligence, helps Adaptiv stop known and emerging threats before they spread. Adaptiv’s cloud-based detection identifies upward of 93% of malicious payloads on the first encounter, reducing reliance on delayed endpoint responses.

Secure remote access is no longer a “VPN or nothing” choice. With Adaptiv, remote users get fast, reliable, and secure access to private and cloud-hosted resources through the My Connect client. Whether working from home, in transit, or overseas, the experience remains consistent—and secure.

Together, these capabilities form in-depth and overlapping layers of security that work together to keep businesses, users, and data safe.

And unlike hardware-bound solutions, Adaptiv’s architecture complements — not replaces — existing NGFWs. It lightens their load, simplifies your stack, and protects users beyond the wall.

Looking Ahead: Securing Data, Both in Transit and at Rest

Adaptiv’s approach to SASE delivers robust protection for data in transit—through encrypted tunnels, real-time inspection, and cloud-based policy enforcement. But in today’s evolving landscape, security can go even further. Cloud-first strategies, hybrid work, and the rise of SaaS have expanded the attack surface to include data at rest and in use, across cloud platforms, collaboration tools, and remote endpoints.

Working together as strategic partners, this is where Adaptiv Networks and Coro go even further, expanding the SASE model and offering a more comprehensive security apparatus. It integrates:

Endpoint protection, ensuring devices themselves are secure even when disconnected from the corporate network

Email filtering, defending one of the most common and dangerous attack vectors with anti-phishing, malware scanning, and link protection

SaaS access governance, controlling who can access what cloud applications, under what circumstances, and from which locations or devices

Data Loss Prevention (DLP), protecting sensitive information from accidental leaks, misuse, or exfiltration—whether stored in cloud drives, shared in collaboration tools, or left on local endpoints

Bringing these controls together establishes comprehensive protection that goes beyond monitoring data in motion, extending to data at rest and in use across cloud and SaaS environments. Organizations gain deeper visibility into user activity and data flows, allowing them to detect and respond to threats in real time. As users move between locations and platforms, security policies follow—ensuring consistent, scalable enforcement without adding operational overhead.

The Takeaway

While NGFWs provide a sense of control and familiarity, that very comfort can lull organizations into complacency. And in today’s threat landscape, complacency is a risk you can’t afford.

SASE offers something better:

Simplicity without compromise

Modularity with cohesion

Security that fits your cloud journey — rather than fighting against it

You’re moving your business to the cloud. Your security posture should too.

SASE is not about replacing your firewall — it’s about reshaping your strategy. It ensures your security grows with your business, not around it. It protects users wherever they work, scales as fast as your infrastructure, and reduces complexity instead of adding to it.

The perimeter is gone. The network is everywhere. The risks are evolving.

And with Adaptiv Networks, so is your protection.

It’s not just a better tool. It’s a better way forward.

The Adaptiv Networks team is collaborating with our strategic partner Coro to advance a shared goal: building a simpler, stronger approach to cybersecurity for the modern enterprise. As digital transformation accelerates and work happens from anywhere, the concept of a fixed network perimeter has all but disappeared. What hasn’t changed is the need to protect data, users, and operations—consistently, and without adding complexity. That’s the focus of our continued collaboration, and the reason we’re here.

The Network Perimeter is Gone

Work has changed—permanently. Whether it’s mobile, remote, hybrid, or simply work from anywhere, the old assumptions about network architecture no longer apply.

The rise of cloud adoption and digital transformation has shattered the boundaries that once defined where the network began and ended.

And yet, many organizations still rely heavily on perimeter-based defenses. Firewalls—next-generation or not—remain part of the toolkit, but they are no longer sufficient on their own. In many cases, they provide a false sense of security. Worse, if not properly maintained and integrated, they can introduce vulnerabilities precisely where protection is most needed.

Security in Transit: Performance and Protection Without Compromise

Adaptiv Connect delivers secure access through a cloud-first SASE architecture that blends SD-WAN with real-time protection features. Traffic is encrypted end to end and intelligently routed through our global gateways, with seamless failover and bi-directional QoS ensuring performance stays high—even on unpredictable links.

But performance alone isn’t enough.

That’s why Adaptiv Connect includes built-in URL filtering, real-time malware inspection, and multi-factor authentication—keeping users safe as they access cloud and corporate resources from anywhere. It’s protection that travels with the user, without adding friction.

Security at Rest: Endpoint and Cloud Peace of Mind

While Adaptiv protects traffic in motion, Coro secures everything else. From endpoints to email to cloud apps, Coro offers unified protection against the most common threats facing mid-sized businesses. Its platform simplifies security operations, reduces alert fatigue, and ensures devices, identities, and business data stay protected—without needing a large security team to manage it all.

Working Together for Users on the Go

Where this really comes together is in the experience of users on the move. My Connect, Adaptiv’s lightweight ZTNA client, delivers encrypted remote access to hosted applications and internal resources. It ensures session reliability, even over variable links, with application-aware traffic steering and forward error correction.

Paired with Coro’s endpoint and cloud protection, this creates a consistent and secure experience—whether employees are at a client site, in transit, or working from home.

It’s layered protection that scales, and it’s designed for the realities of modern work.

Why this Matters

Cybersecurity is no longer a function of physical infrastructure—it’s a function of digital presence. Every device, every connection, every user is a potential entry point. Defending that landscape requires coordination, not silos. Simplicity, not sprawl. Visibility, not guesswork.

As we work with Coro to shape what’s next, the goal is clear: to find ever more ways to help organizations move faster and safer in a perimeter-less world—without needing a full-time security team to get there.

Because in this new reality, layered protection isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.

Adaptiv Networks & Coro: Integrating Network and Data Security

In the ever-evolving digital landscape, the convergence of networking and security is not just a trend but a necessity. As businesses increasingly rely on digital operations, the need for robust cybersecurity has never been more critical. This is especially true for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), which are often targeted by cybercriminals due to their perceived vulnerabilities. According to recent statistics, 61% of SMBs were the target of a cyberattack in 2021. At the same time 51% of small businesses had no cybersecurity measures in place at all[1]. In 2020, 60% of these businesses would go out of business within six months of a cyberattack[2].

In the face of these mounting threats, it becomes apparent that SMBs, just like their larger counterparts, are in great need of a cybersecurity solution that is simple to acquire, deploy, and manage.

Recognizing these challenges, Adaptiv Networks has partnered with Coro to revolutionize the Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) arena. This strategic partnership aims to provide comprehensive security solutions that address the evolving needs of businesses, ensuring both network and data security.

If this is all news to you, you can read the announcement here!

Adaptiv Networks has long been a pioneer in the field of networking, offering innovative solutions that enhance connectivity and performance. With the integration of Coro’s advanced data security solutions, Adaptiv Networks is poised to set a new standard in the SASE market. This partnership brings together the strengths of both companies, creating a robust security framework that protects businesses from a wide range of cyber threats, while bringing the cost effectiveness and simplicity required for the businesses with branches with a lean IT environment.

Adaptiv SD-WAN: Security by Design

Adaptiv Networks’ Cloud SD-WAN architecture is designed with security at its core, thanks to a zero-trust under-pinning. By adopting Adaptiv’s SD-WAN, businesses can benefit from several inherent security features.

Encryption ensures that all data transmitted over the network is secure from interception, providing peace of mind for businesses handling sensitive information.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) adds an extra layer of security by requiring multiple forms of verification before granting access to the network. This significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access and enhances overall network security.

By relying on its Carrier-Grade Network Address Translation (CGNAT) architecture, Adaptiv helps protect internal network addresses from external threats, making it more difficult for attackers to target specific devices within the network.

These security features are not just add-ons but integral components of Adaptiv’s SD-WAN zero-trust architecture. This “security by design” approach ensures that businesses can enjoy the benefits of advanced networking technology without compromising on security. As cyber threats become more sophisticated, having a secure network infrastructure is crucial for maintaining business continuity and protecting valuable data.

Adaptiv SASE: Comprehensive Network Security Offering

Adaptiv Networks’ existing security offerings under the SASE framework include a range of advanced security measures.

URL filtering blocks access to malicious or inappropriate websites, reducing the risk of phishing attacks and other web-based threats.

Antivirus and anti-malware solutions protect against a wide range of malware, including viruses, ransomware, and spyware. These solutions are essential for safeguarding business operations and preventing costly data breaches.

The Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) monitor network traffic for suspicious activity and take proactive measures to prevent potential threats. These systems provide real-time protection against cyberattacks, ensuring that businesses can respond quickly to emerging threats.

By integrating these security measures into the SASE framework, Adaptiv Networks offers a comprehensive security solution that addresses the diverse needs of modern businesses.

Introducing Data Security by Coro

The partnership with Coro brings a new portfolio of data security solutions to Adaptiv’s partners and end-customers.

This includes endpoint protection, which safeguards devices such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets from cyber threats. As remote work becomes more prevalent, protecting endpoints is crucial for maintaining the security of business operations.

Cloud protection provides security for cloud-based applications and services, including Microsoft, Google, and Salesforce. With businesses increasingly relying on cloud services, having robust cloud security measures is essential for protecting sensitive data.

Email protection shields email communications from phishing, spam, and other email-based attacks. Given that email is a common vector for cyberattacks, having effective email security measures is vital for preventing data breaches and protecting business communications.

By integrating Coro’s data security solutions into its portfolio, Adaptiv Networks offers a comprehensive security framework that addresses both network and data security needs.

This separation allows the centralized management of network traffic, optimizing the use of available bandwidth and improving overall application and service performance.

SD-WAN: Edge or Cloud

Edge SD-WAN is a fully on-premise solution where SD-WAN appliances are deployed at each enterprise location, creating a managed network that optimizes traffic flow between these sites. This approach ensures data remains within the enterprise’s private network, providing a high degree of control and security. However, this approach requires significant hardware investments and complex setups, limiting scalability and management complexity. Additionally, it provides limited benefits for Cloud services, as it doesn’t have the ability to aggregate traffic for external traffic.

Cloud SD-WAN combines on-premise and cloud components, using cloud-based controllers and gateways (Points of Presence) to extend the network’s reach. This hybrid approach enhances connectivity to cloud services and remote users, improving flexibility and scalability. Cloud SD-WAN offers easy deployment without significant hardware investments, allowing rapid scaling and centralized management. It provides seamless failover, ensuring continuous connectivity by dynamically rerouting traffic, unlike edge systems that may experience downtime.

So which option is the best? That depends on the use case and the organization. It may surprise you to learn that it doesn’t have to be one or the other.

Adaptiv Networks: Edge AND Cloud

Adaptiv Networks delivers powerful SD-WAN solutions tailored to meet diverse business needs with its Adaptiv Connect and ELFIQ products.

Adaptiv SD-WAN is dynamic, scalable, cloud-managed solution offering high performance and seamless failover for site-to-site and cloud traffic. This solution is ideal for businesses seeking a flexible and reliable network infrastructure that can quickly adapt to changing demands and provide uninterrupted connectivity. Adaptiv Networks’ extensive gateway footprint allows client organizations to benefit from a globally available wide area network, at a fraction of the cost.

On the other hand, ELFIQ by Adaptiv Networks is engineered to handle large bandwidths and massive numbers of internal requests, making it the perfect business continuity solution for data centers. ELFIQ ensures that data centers can manage high traffic volumes efficiently, maintain optimal performance, and provide robust failover capabilities. This allows data centers to deliver consistent, high-quality service to their clients while maintaining operational resilience.

But wait, there’s more.

What if we could offer the best of both worlds, into one single deployment?

Split Tunneling: Changing the Game

Adaptiv SD-WAN stands out with its unique ability to perform split tunneling, allowing the creation of an overlay to encrypt and protect mission-critical or sensitive traffic while breaking out non-critical traffic like video streaming, gaming, or browsing locally.

Indeed, Adaptiv offers a tailored solution for traffic sensitive to interruptions, latency, and network instability, such as voice, video conferencing, and file transfers. By directing critical traffic sensitive to interruptions, latency, and network instability (such as voice, video conferencing, and file transfers) through the Adaptiv overlay, businesses can ensure consistent performance and reliability even in the face of intermittent outages.

Meanwhile, less critical traffic, which is less susceptible to suffering from such disruptions, still benefits from the same level of active-active link redundancy and failover technologies provided by ELFIQ.

This dual approach combines the strengths of both Adaptiv and ELFIQ, offering the best of both worlds: flexibility, efficiency, and cost savings opportunities. Businesses can optimize their network resources, prioritize mission-critical applications, and maintain seamless connectivity across their operations, enhancing productivity and user experience.

Use Cases

The three following examples offer another perspective into SD-WAN architecture, benefiting from Adaptiv’s flexible design. In all three cases, end users have access to best-in-class SD-WAN, both at the edge, and the cloud, and can realize substantial savings on the cost of connectivity and infrastructure.

Retail: Prioritizing Transactions

A nationwide retail chain requires a scalable network solution for its digital transformation. With Adaptiv SD-WAN, the chain can rapidly turn up new stores and seamlessly connect them to the Adaptiv Connect Network of gateways. Centralized management simplifies oversight, while bi-directional QoS (Quality of Service) prioritizes transaction and point-of-sale traffic, ensuring smooth processing. To avoid bottlenecks especially during peak shopping periods, other types of traffic coming from employees and guests are not sent through the tunnel, but broken out and balanced on the local Internet, enhancing customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

Corporate Offices: Prioritizing Communications

An accountant firm, spread across various cities, relies on Unified Communications as a Service (UCaaS) for seamless communication. With Adaptiv SD-WAN, UCaaS traffic receives top priority, ensuring high-quality voice and video calls. Split tunneling segregates non-critical traffic, preventing congestion that could disrupt essential communication tools. This streamlined approach enhances collaboration among team members and fosters efficient client interactions, improving productivity and satisfaction. Adaptiv SD-WAN guarantees reliable communication channels vital for the firm’s success.

Hotels: Prioritizing Reservations

An upscale hotel was struggling with intermittent connectivity. This caused issues, especially for guests trying to access the hotel Wi-Fi, and at the time of checking in. In the world of hotels, guest satisfaction is key, and failed transactions are not a great way to achieve 5-star reviews. With Adaptiv SD-WAN, the hotel can now prioritize reservation system traffic, ensuring that bookings and back-office processes remain uninterrupted. At the same time, guest Wi-Fi and employee traffic, while important, consumes a lot more bandwidth but doesn’t require the same level of seamless operation. As such, it still benefits from blazing fast link failover, providing a positive experience for both staff and guests.

Conclusion

As businesses navigate the complexities of digital transformation, the need for flexible, scalable, and cost-effective network solutions becomes paramount. Adaptiv Networks’ SD-WAN offers a comprehensive suite of solutions for a variety of network environments, combining the best features of both Edge and Cloud SD-WAN architectures. With unique features like split tunneling and a focus on seamless failover, active-active link load balancing, and dynamic traffic management, Adaptiv Networks empowers businesses to achieve their connectivity goals and thrive in a digital-first world. Adaptiv Networks is taking a significant step forward in this regard by introducing Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for its Adaptiv Cloud Orchestrator and Adaptiv My Connect. This new feature is designed to bolster security and provide users with peace of mind.

What is Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) is a security mechanism that requires users to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to an online resource. Instead of just asking for a username and password, MFA requires one or more additional verification factors, which decreases the likelihood of a successful intrusion. These factors can include something you know (password), something you have (smartphone), or something you are (fingerprint). Passwords can be stolen, guessed, or hacked. MFA adds an extra layer of security, making it significantly harder for unauthorized users to gain access.

Adaptiv Networks’ MFA Implementation

Adaptiv Networks’ new MFA allows users to choose from a wide range of industry-leading authenticator applications including those developed by Google and Microsoft. Users also have the option to connect using a temporary password sent to their account email. This flexibility ensures that users can select the authentication method that best suits their needs and preferences, and their employer’s corporate policies.

Enrolling in Adaptiv MFA

The next time users connect to the Adaptiv Cloud Orchestrator or log in to their My Connect client, they will be prompted to enroll in the new Adaptiv MFA. The enrollment process begins with users authenticating their corporate email address using a temporary one-time password. This initial step ensures that only authorized users can set up their MFA, adding an extra layer of security from the outset.

Reinforcing Network Security

The introduction of MFA by Adaptiv Networks is a significant step in reinforcing network security. By requiring multiple forms of verification, Adaptiv Networks is proactively ensuring that its systems are more secure against unauthorized access and potential breaches. This move not only protects sensitive information but also enhances user trust and confidence in the security measures in place.

For more information on the different layers of network security with Adaptiv Networks, please read our e-book or reach out to presales@adaptiv-networks.com.

Implementing SD-WAN can lead to substantial cost savings. MPLS circuits are expensive, costing $50 to $600 per Mbps per month. For Delicious Enterprises Inc., this adds up to thousands of dollars monthly. In contrast, broadband connections cost $20 to $60 for 100 Mbps. By replacing MPLS with broadband and leveraging SD-WAN, monthly expenses could drop from $5,000 to $2,000, saving thousands.

Monica is an IT manager at a mid-sized company with offices across four states. For several years now, she had been feeling the weight of her network infrastructure challenges. The company’s traditional network setup was a tangled web of complexity, high maintenance costs, and frequent outages. Every day felt like a race against time, juggling increasing demands and constant firefighting.

Monica had tried various approaches to tackle individual issues—automating processes, consolidating alerts into dashboards—but the relief was temporary. Alert fatigue and stress gnawed at her consciousness. Even during her time off, she saw life in terms of red, amber, and green squares. She feared that her summer would slip by without any time to enjoy it. Tapas on a patio, a trip to the beach, catching up with friends, or even just a quiet martini on a Friday afternoon seemed like distant dreams.

She desperately needed a solution to simplify network management, reduce costs, and improve reliability. There had to be a better way. She hadn’t had a vacation in years, and she was determined that this summer would be different.

During her research, she came across Adaptiv Networks and its portfolio of SD-WAN solutions designed for simplicity and cost-efficiency. She had heard of SD-WAN before with its promises of uptime and performance, but she had never had the bandwidth (pun intended) to consider it seriously due to her constant workload. With Adaptiv Networks, she saw a potential solution that could not only address her immediate concerns but also free up her time.

Reliability and failover. Monica’s first step was to implement Adaptiv Connect. This solution eliminated the need for complex failover configurations and manual interventions in the event of a local Internet outage. The seamless failover capabilities ensured uninterrupted service, even during network disruptions. This was a significant improvement over the previous setup, providing increased reliability and reducing the burden on her IT team. If the main Internet provider went down, her network would stay online, giving Monica time to finish her beer before having to rush to her laptop to troubleshoot.

Cloud Network Efficiency. With Adaptiv Connect, Monica could leverage the scalability of the cloud, allowing her network to grow seamlessly with her business. The lighter hardware requirements at the edge reduced the need for frequent upgrades, making it easier and more cost-effective to expand the network as needed. This cloud-based scalability meant that her network could quickly adapt to changing demands, and she could finally see a summer where she could plan a beach trip without worrying about the constant planning of upcoming site turnups.

Reducing network overhead. One of the standout features was the ability to migrate security functions to the Coud. Pairing the solution’s Web Protect web filtering add-on with the local CPE’s stateful firewall, Monica was able to replace individual firewalls and other security devices, significantly reducing her network’s surface of attack. This simplification cut down the time and effort needed every month for maintenance, security patches, and hardware upgrades. Her network became more efficient and easier to manage, allowing her to carve out time to enjoy tapas on a patio, and even catch the occasional movie at the drive-in with friends.

Flexible remote connectivity. Monica also implemented My Connect for her remote workers, ensuring they had reliable, high-quality connections similar to those in the office. There was no need for a separate VPN concentrator; remote workers could authenticate and connect to the network as if they were physically present in the office. This solution improved her team’s productivity and enabled seamless communication and collaboration, even from remote locations. The added security of Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) ensured that all remote access was secure, maintaining the integrity of the company’s network. Knowing that her team could work efficiently from anywhere gave Monica the confidence to plan a spontaneous getaway. She, too, could work remotely, even – gasp! – from a cottage.

Monitoring and troubleshooting. The advanced monitoring and troubleshooting tools available in the Adaptiv Cloud Orchestrator provided Monica with real-time insights into her network’s performance. Automated alerts and comprehensive diagnostics enabled her to proactively address issues before they impacted users. For example, she quickly associated network saturation with increased streaming traffic during the Stanley Cup finals and applied Quality of Service (QoS) rules to ensure that voice and video traffic were prioritized. This enhanced visibility and control over her network while improving overall reliability and performance, reducing the time spent on troubleshooting. Now, Monica could actually focus on strategic initiatives and maybe even enjoy a martini every Friday afternoon, knowing that her network was in good hands.

Monica’s decision to implement Adaptiv Networks’ SD-WAN solutions transformed her network infrastructure. The seamless failover capabilities ensured uninterrupted service, while cloud-powered scalability allowed her network to grow with the business. The reduced overhead at the edge simplified management and maintenance, and the advanced monitoring tools provided real-time insights and proactive issue resolution. Adaptiv Networks not only addressed Monica’s initial challenges but also positioned her company for future growth and success.

The streamlined network operations and cost savings enabled Monica’s IT team to focus on innovation and strategic projects, driving the business forward. Finally, Monica could see a summer where she could enjoy simple pleasures and, maybe – maybe – work on her tan. Thanks to her great idea of improving IT and network efficiency with the help of Adaptiv SD-WAN, Monica’s summer was looking brighter and more balanced.
